The surgeon then inserts a biocompatible pigment, certified to mask the natural color of the iris without altering its structure.

Traditional Eye Tattoo (Dermopigmentation): This is performed manually with needles that puncture the cornea irregularly. It is an invasive, painful, and risky technique (perforations, infections), and the result is often faded or imprecise.

Keratopigmentation (FLAAK): This is a robotic micro-surgery procedure. We do not use any needles. The Femtosecond laser prepares the pigment bed to the nearest micron, guaranteeing uniform distribution and ultra-fast healing. Additionally, our pigments are Medical Devices (CE marking) that are clinically tested, unlike traditional tattoo inks which can contain heavy metals.

• Aesthetic Application: Today, we use this same restorative expertise for healthy patients wishing to purely change the color of their gaze. The act is therefore aesthetic, but it is exclusively performed by ophthalmologist surgeons (keratopigmentation safe) in a sterile operating room.

• Is keratopigmentation permanent? Adjustability (The major advantage): Unlike a permanent implant, keratopigmentation is adaptable. If you find the color too light or wish to change the shade after a few years, a touch-up is possible. We can easily re-intervene to intensify, darken, or slightly modify the tint by reusing the existing tunnel.
• Reversibility: While it is technically possible to remove part of the pigment, it is very difficult to return 100% to your original color (the eye will regain its transparency but may retain a slight residual veil). You should not commit to the procedure if you are hesitant.

The FLAAK protocol is standardized and follows strict surgical rigor. The procedure is divided into 3 perfectly orchestrated key steps:

1. Preparation & Anesthesia: After sterile gowning, we instill powerful anesthetic eye drops. The eye is numbed in seconds without any injections.
2. Laser Cutting (15 seconds): This is the high-technology moment. The Femtosecond laser creates a circular micro-tunnel within the thickness of the cornea (stroma). It is painless and features micrometric precision, far superior to the human hand.
3. Pigment Injection: The surgeon delicately introduces the biocompatible pigment into this tunnel using a fine cannula. The pigment spreads harmoniously to mask the natural color of the iris.

Result: You stand up immediately afterward with your new eye color.

• Duration: Expect approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour in total to treat both eyes (bilateral). The actual laser time is only a few seconds per eye; the rest of the time is devoted to careful preparation and the artistic injection of the pigment.
• Anesthesia: The procedure is performed under pure topical anesthesia.
  • No injections: Only anesthetic drops are used.
